Barry Heninger
Managing Director – USA
Barry is a founding partner of Global Fudosan. He is also a Managing Partner at Keiretsu Capital, a private equity firm that operates numerous private equity funds devoted to tech, blockchain and real estate. Prior to this Barry was a partner in Global Sport Group, an Australia based direct investment and advisory firm that focused on golf and leisure real estate assets. The firm owned and operated private golf and business clubs in Australia and Japan. He was concurrently a Senior Vice President with 29th Street Capital, a San Francisco based private equity firm.
He was a Senior Vice President and Managing Director with ClubCorp, the world’s largest owner and operator of private golf clubs. He was responsible for all international growth and
established the company’s international footprint by opening assets in Australia, China, Japan and New Zealand.
He started his career as an Asset Manager for GGS Group, a Tokyo based investment firm. He was part of a team that acquired over $3 billion in sports and leisure focused assets. He lived and worked in Japan and Australia for over 10 years.
Barry holds an MBA from Oregon State University and a BS degree in Finance from Utah State University’s Jon M Huntsman School of Business, where he has lectured on Investment Valuation topics as well as preparing students to sit for the CFA exam..

Morikuni “Mike” Kono
Managing Director – Japan
Mike is a founding partner of Global Fudosan. He was the first person to teach DCF (discounted cashflow) at Sogo Unicom in 2000. He was a founding member and a past president of IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management) Japan chapter and the founding president of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) Japan chapter, sister organizations under NAR (National Association of Realtors).
He was born and raised in Takamatsu Japan and founded Urban Real Estate Consulting Corporation based in Takamatsu in 1978. Urban REC now has offices in Tokyo and Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the first person to securitize properties outside of metropolitan areas in Japan. He has done some large-scale M&A’s as well as purchasing and reorganizing a golf course in his market.
His expertise includes property management, asset management, and investment analysis. Being an Excel expert, he developed SuperREIFA, a comprehensive asset management and estate planning program, with Mr. Junichi Takamoto, the developer of the well-known REIFA (Real Estate Investment Financial Analysis). They have also developed Proformer, a web-based application which creates after-tax pro forma for hundreds of investment properties in their database.
He is a graduate of Chuo University School of Science and Engineering and majored in civil engineering.
Doug Hymas
Managing Director – Japan and USA
Doug is a founding partner of Global Fudosan. Previously, Doug was Japan Country Executive for The Bank of New York Mellon, the world’s largest custodian and asset administrator and a top-ten investment management company.
Doug’s prior roles include President and CEO of ING Investment Management (Japan), founding representative director and CEO of Wells Fargo Securities Japan, and founding director/president of Legg Mason Securities Japan.
Earlier, Doug headed product development at Citigroup Asset Management Japan and offshore fund sales for Citicorp Securities Japan.
A member of the State Bar of California, Doug formerly led the legal and compliance departments for Barclays Global Investors, then the world’s largest passive investment manager (now part of BlackRock), and for Citigroup Asset Management.
Doug holds JD and BA degrees from Brigham Young University and teaches East-West Negotiations as an adjunct professor at the Tokyo campus of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law.
Doug serves in several community organizations, including as governor of The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, as House Committee Chair for the Tokyo American Club, and as Treasurer for the Far East Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Nick Woffinden
Managing Director – Japan
Nick is a founding partner of Global Fudosan. He has wide-ranging work experience in international banking, finance and real estate. Having worked and lived in Japan for almost 30 years, Nick has an intimate understanding of the Japanese market.
Early in his career, Nick worked as a senior manager for American Malls International and held several other positions as the company expanded globally. He went on to occupy senior management roles at GMAC Commercial Mortgage Japan, Lehman Brothers Real Estate Japan, and CLSA Capital Partners Fudo Fund before joining Wells Fargo Securities Japan as senior vice president.
Since 2014, Nick has developed utility scale solar projects throughout Asia, and in 2016 he helped launch the Myanmar Rural Electrification Fund (MREF) to provide electrification throughout rural Myanmar. MREF has partnered with Schneider Electric, the Worldwide Wildlife Fund, NRECA International, and other organizations in its mission to empower local communities through making energy accessible and affordable to rural villages. In 2020, Nick was featured in Forbes Magazine for his work as the CEO of MREF.
He is a graduate of Utah State University with a degree in Finance.
Ben Hayden-Smith
Managing Director – Australia
Ben Hayden-Smith is a founding partner of Global Fudosan. He has worked extensively throughout Asia and Australia/New Zealand over the past 25 years in financial services and consulting.
Ben was previously a partner in More Super, an Australian based provider of compliance services for financial planning businesses and accounting firms until the company was sold to AMP, a publicly listed investment group. He is currently on the board of Arrow Health, a private medical group based in Melbourne.
Prior to that Ben worked as an investment analyst for GPL Financial Services, screening prospective investments for accredited/sophisticated investors in property, technology and environment focused funds. He also worked on capital raising for early stage technology businesses.
Ben is an adjunct lecturer at Bond Business School, where he teaches business model design and entrepreneurial finance. He also teaches in the Bond BBT MBA, an executive education program partnered by Business Breakthrough Japan and Bond University.
Ben has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and North East Asian Economies from Macquarie University and a Master of Business Administration from Bond University. He is often paddle boarding in the ocean or snowboarding in the mountains.
